Like just about every car if you go back in time there are models that were a little forgettable, or perhaps even regrettable.

The first incarnation of the Land Rover Discovery left a bit to be desired, you had the choice of an underpowered turbo-diesel or the all alloy 3.5 litre fuel guzzling V8.

Then the series two came along with that brilliant 5 cylinder turbo-diesel engine.

Some would say the third series was sub-par with reports of mechanical defects and dodgy build quality.

So what’s the new one like?
