The current-shape 2015 Kia Cerato looks like a sporty car, so you tend to think of it as one.

The features list in the range-topping SLi is enough to impress most small car buyers and it comes with capped-price servicing for the duration of Kia’s seven-year factory warranty.

There are two variations of the Kia Cerato SLi available - hatch and sedan and the engine choice in this grade is one – 129kW/209Nm 2.0 litre petrol. A six-speed automatic transmission comes as standard also.

Kia has priced the Kia Cerato SLi consistently, both the hatch and sedan are priced from $31,990.

On the road, I guess the first thing you notice about the 2015 Kia Cerato is the ride. Tuned for Australian conditions, the suspension gives the car a distinct advantage over some of its small car rivals.

It is supple enough to let owners think they’re driving on smooth roads rather than the second rate bitumen that dominates most cities.

The 2.0 litre engine is not a world beater but does a more than admirable job of moving the Cerato around, while the transmission is smooth and responsive enough to help make the most of the 129kW and 209Nm on offer.

Fuel consumption, quite reasonable. The Kia Cerato SLi should use around 7.4L/100km combined, around town you can expect that to creep up just above 10.0L/100km.

Inside the cabin, Kia has given the current model Cerato a quite attractive and well-rounded look. Yes, there are a couple of let downs inside, most notably the somewhat hard plastics and quite dated looking red light displays.

  • Front and rear parking sensors

  • Heated front seats

  • Push-button ignition

While any paint colour other than white will cost you an additional $520.

Safety is well catered for, the Kia Cerato boasts a full five-star ANCAP safety rating.

Summing it up; The pricing, seven-year warranty and seven-year fixed-price servicing that the Kia Cerato boasts make it a car well worth a test-drive.

One of the great underachievers in the Australian car market, the Cerato is a good offering that is well-balanced and sensible, without being boring. There’s room in the rear even for six-footers, boot space aplenty and the fuel consumption is also kind to the budget.

Perhaps a bit more life under the bonnet to match the sporty looks would be welcome, overall though it’s hard not to like the Kia Cerato.
