2017 Mazda MX-5 wins popularity award

Honest John Award for Mazda’s 2017 MX-5…

Mazda MX-5 sales in Australia in 2017 have been a bit disappointing for Mazda Australia.

The VFACTS numbers show sales of the roadster are down 19.7% with just 563 sales, down from just over 701 local deliveries in the same period last year.

Never the less, the Mazda MX-5 is proving very popular in the UK.

The Mazda roadster has just been named Most Popular Convertible at the 2017 Honest John Awards.

The Honest John awards are based on the cars that are searched for the most on the Honest John site and which cars create the most interest among readers.

Honest John Managing Editor, Dan Powell, says the new RF version of the MX-5 sparked a lot of interest.

“The old MX-5 was regarded by many as the most enjoyable and engaging open top car ever built; however, with the all-new model, Mazda has achieved the improbable by improving it at every level.

“So, it’s perhaps of little surprise to see the MX-5 take the most popular Convertible prize, with its affordable yet punchy performance making it a sure-fire hit with our readers.”

  1. Maybe sales are down because us aussies require a bit more storage space in the cabin and personally i like a hot drink in my car and the mx5 cupholders have to be the biggest joke in the industry, its a deal breaker for many, just completely ridiculous concept
