2017 sales downturn continues for Nissan/Infiniti

Australian sales head south as other markets steam ahead

Nissan and Infiniti sales continued to slide in September, that’s despite the two brands enjoying strong sales increases in other key markets.

The VFACTS sales data shows local Nissan sales last month fell to just 4,002 units, a total 22.7% lower than what was achieved in the same month last year.

Year to date, Nissan vehicle sales in Australia are behind by 15.0%.

Some of the models performing particularly poorly at the moment include Pathfinder (-29.5% in September), while QASHQAI sales were down 4.4% and X-Trail was nearly 14% lower.

Conversely, bright spots include a 63.4% jump in demand for 4×2 versions of the Nissan Navara, and the refreshed 370Z found 40 customers in the month – a 17.6% improvement on the same month last year.

For Infiniti, just 69 sales were achieved in Australia in September, that number down 31%.

Despite that downturn, Infiniti remains slightly ahead of its 2016 total to the end of September (+1.2%).

In the U.S., Nissan sold 139,932 vehicles in the month – a 9.5% improvement over the same month in 2016.

Of that total, 12,745 vehicles carried an Infiniti badge - an increase of 12%.

In Canada, sales of the two car brands were ahead 14.3% and in the UK the Nissan QASHQAI was the nation’s best-selling model in September.

28,810 UK sales in September helped Nissan to a near 7% market share, that makes the brand one of the UK’s most popular.

407 Infiniti sales in the month also helped lift the sport/luxury brands credentials.

Meantime, Infiniti global sales numbers have also just come to hand and show 21,523 vehicle sales in September, an increase of 8% compared to last September.

Year to date sales of 182,884 vehicles represents an increase of 11%.

  1. The issue is their range has been scaled back so much, that they don’t have enough models to entice people into their showrooms. Add to this a short warranty and they seem invisible lately
