2018 BMW 520i lands in Australia

New entry-level BMW 5 Series

The BMW 5 Series range has expanded to include a sixth variant – the 2018 BMW 520i.

Coming on the back of the local arrival of the plug-in hybrid version, the 530e iPerformance (reviewed here), the 520i features a 2.0 litre four-cylinder turbo-petrol engine that produces 135kW and 290Nm.

BMW tell us the engine propels the big 5 Series from zero to 100km/h in 7.8 seconds and the car promises fuel consumption of 6.2L/100km combined.

As with other variants of the new-gen 5 Series the base-model car comes with an eight-speed auto transmission as standard.

Sharing the same standard gear as the as the diesel-powered 520d, the new offering comes with:

  • LED Headlights
  • LED fog lights
  • 18” alloy wheels
  • Dakota leather upholstery
  • Electric front seats
  • Electrically-adjustable steering column
  • Professional grade sat-nav
  • Wireless smartphone charging
  • Digital radio
  • Head-Up display

While the 2018 BMW 520i also boasts the Driving Assistant Plus features including Active Cruise with Lane Keeping Assist (check out this review to find out more about these features).

Priced from $92,900, BMW Australia CEO Marc Werner tells us the new 5 Series variant is ready to find plenty of Aussie buyers.

“The 520i joins the range as a highly-equipped entry point, sharing specification with the popular BMW 520d.

“Now with three petrol engines, two diesels and the impressive 530e plug-in hybrid, the BMW 5 Series appeals to a wider audience than ever.”
