Parents are often worried about their teenager’s safety while driving, using their phone, playing with the entertainment system or a million other features found in modern cars nowadays.
Well the US News and World Report have listed their Best New Cars for Teens for this year considering the vehicles that provide the least number of distractions.
Most of the best new cars for teens are models available in Australia.
The Mazda3 was listed as the best in the $25,000-$30,000 range followed by the Honda Civic.
Above those are the similar Hyundai Sonata ($30,000-$35,000) and Kia Optima ($35,000-$40,000).
Aside from safety, price is also an important consideration with a first car and the best cars under $20,000 were named as the Chevrolet Sonic (not avail. in Aus)and the Honda Fit (Jazz).
In the $20,000-$25,000 range is the Kia Soul.
But for those prepared to splash a little more dosh on their young ones the best choice was the Toyota Highlander (Kluger) at the over $40,000 mark.
Research analyst Matt Rand says technology in some vehicles that allow parents to set speed and volume limits are a great feature along with safety features.
“Each winner has a long list of accident-avoidance technologies such as blind spot monitoring, forward collision alert, lane departure warning, and automatic pre-collision braking, as well as top-notch crash test performance.”
