Calls for focus on import container packing

Road Freight NSW says ensuring containers are packed properly is crucial…

There are concerns among container transport companies in NSW that they will soon be penalised for carrying poorly packed containers.

The Roads and Maritime Services (RMS) is threatening large fines after concerns were raised that many overseas packed containers were leading to axle weight breaches.

The peak body representing NSW trucking operators, Road Freight NSW (RFNSW), says however that it’s customers and agents overseas that need to ensure their containers are packed properly.

That means ensuring the weight of the contents is evenly distributed within the container.

RFNSW General Manager, Simon O’Hara, telling us this is a critical issue for trucking companies.

“It is the responsibility of everyone to make sure that these requirements are met.

“Making sure that loads are distributed evenly within containers means that everyone is safer and more efficient,”

While Mr. O’Hara also reiterated that each container must also be restrained to meet Australian load restraint performance standards and you can check out the current NTC Load Restraint Guide here.
