Door lock issue sparks Mitsubishi Outlander/ASX recall

MY16 Mitsubishi SUVs could have potentially dangerous fault…

A recall of some Mitsubishi ASX and Mitsubishi Outlander SUVs has been initiated after a potentially dangerous door lock fault was identified.

The recall affects Mitsubishi ASX vehicles built between the 23rd of April 2015 and the 14th of March 2016 and Outlander vehicles built between the 23rd of April 2015 and the 15th of March 2016.

The Australian Competition and Consumer Commission (ACCC) is overseeing the recall and advises that the precision of the door latch assembly on affected vehicles is insufficient and may not operate correctly under high temperature.

What are the hazards?

Vehicle doors may not lock securely and could open during driving, posing a risk of injury to passengers.

When parts become available, Mitsubishi Motors Australia will contact all known owners by mail and advise them to present their vehicle to their preferred dealer to have the affected door latches replaced.

Further info is also available direct from Mitsubishi on 1300 131 211, the Mitsubishi-Motors website and from local dealerships.

  1. I have a 2015 ASX AND I am having a problem with the central locking system. Currently only the drivers door and the trunk will open with the remote or close from inside. There are times when the passenger front door will open with the remote but this rarely happens. What should I do?
