Ford has announced the new Fiesta will be offered in a performance ST variant when the new Fiesta arrives in September.

The Fiesta ST will be equipped with Ford’s 1.6 litre Ecoboost engine generating an impressive 134kW and 240Nm. But it doesn’t stop there – the ST will also come with an overboost function that ups the engines output to 147kW and 290Nm for up to 20 seconds at a time!

Developed by Ford Team RS, the European arm of Ford’s Global Performance Vehicle group, the Fiesta ST also picks up re-tuned suspension, steering and brakes.

On the inside the performance Fiesta will get Recaro seats and a new Sound Symposer which channels the engine note to the cabin, Ford says this will ‘ensure the distinctive engine roar is integral to the driving experience’.

Ford Australia general marketing manager, David Katic, says the Fiesta ST is sure to be a hit with performance car buyers.

“Not since the Fiesta XR4 has Ford had such a performance offering in this segment,”

“The Fiesta ST leverages the performance input of our European team to deliver a very refined car that will appeal to a broad spread of customers.”

“It’s a car that speaks directly to connoisseurs of the hot hatchback, who have a passion for performance driving.”

Pricing for the new Ford Fiesta ST is yet to be confirmed.
