Mercedes-Benz has taken the covers off the new Mercedes-Benz Concept GLC Coupe, a vehicle that looks likely to show the brands future SUV design direction.

While still a concept at this stage, Mercedes-Benz has committed to a wider selection of SUV models as the global market continues to have a seemingly unquenchable thirst for them, Mercedes-Benz say the GLC Coupe is near production ready and that means it’s likely to become a reality.

In releasing the Concept GLC Coupe, Mercedes-Benz stressed that this is a model designed to have genuine off-road ability, the vehicle featuring 21” tyres, front and rear underbody protection, increased ground clearance and side running boards.

Under the bonnet of the concept model is a V6 engine that produces 270kW and 520Nm.

Gorden Wagener, Head of Design at Daimler AG, said the Concept GLC Coupe is a vision of the Mercedes-Benz SUV models we will soon see on the roads.

“With its modern and sensual design idiom, the Concept GLC Coupé gives a foretaste of future SUV models from Mercedes-Benz.”

“At the same time, it embraces the typical values of tradition-steeped Mercedes-Benz coupes”.
