US publication Automotive News reports that sources close to the Japanese car companies are confirming that talks are underway with the possibility of a $1.84 billion US dollar takeover of Mitsubishi by Nissan Motor Co. on the cards.
Separate meetings being held today (Thursday) by the boards of Nissan and Mitsubishi Motors could be a pivotal moment for the brands.
The takeover talk comes after Mitsubishi admitted to cheating on fuel-economy ratings with suggestions that scandal, which has already severely impacted Mitsubishi sales in Japan, could be set to spread beyond the initial models named.
Press officials for Nissan and Mitsubishi are yet to comment on the takeover rumours. We will keep you updated.
