Peugeot 4008 SUVs recalled to fix tailgate issue

Just over 4200 Peugeot SUVs affected by recall…

A recall of thousands of Peugeot SUVs sold in Australia over a more than five-year period has been initiated.

The recall affects Peugeot 4008 SUVs sold between the 2nd of April 2012 and the 31st of December 2015 and the recall is being overseen by the Australian Competition and Consumer Commission (ACCC).

News that the action has been commenced shouldn’t come as a surprise, the Peugeot 4008 from this period is a sister of the Mitsubishi ASX.

The Mitsubishi version was recalled last December to fix the same tail-gate issue.

The recall notice advises that an insufficient anti corrosion coating was applied to the end cap on the outer tube of the tailgate gas springs, which may cause corrosion.

What are the hazards?

Corrosion may result in the end cap breaking and hitting the operator and/or the tailgate falling down suddenly, resulting in an injury or a potential accident.

Owners will be contacted by direct mail and are being asked to arrange an appointment with their preferred Peugeot authorised dealer to have the vehicle inspected and the replacement parts installed.
