Skoda is continuing to enjoy healthy sales increases, a phenomenon taking place both on the global stage and in Australia.

Sales data released by the Czech car brand overnight shows September 2017 was a record sales month for Skoda with a 5.4% increase in deliveries compared to the same month last year (a record year in itself).

112,900 sales in total made the month the best-ever recorded in the brand’s 122-year history.

Driving much of the growth is the arrival of the new Kodiaq SUV – that offering found 13,300 owners in the month.

The Superb also lifted sales 2.9%, and helped off-set a slow-down for Octavia (-8.5%), Fabia (-3.3%), Rapid (-3.5 %), and Yeti (-27.1 %).

The new Skoda Karoq crossover is expected to help continue to lift sales volumes as well over the next 12 months.

Sales and marketing chief at Skoda, Alain Favey, tells us the data proves adding SUVs to the range was the correct move.

“With the Skoda Kodiaq, we successfully launched a true gamechanger this year.

“The large SUV already represents an important pillar of our company’s positive sales development.

“With the introduction of the Karoq, we are now opening the next chapter of our SUV campaign.”

In Australia it was a similar story to the global trends for Skoda.

VFACTS data shows 475 total Skoda sales in September – a 25.0% lift on the same month in 2016.

91 Kodiaq sales helped off-set a 40% drop in Fabia sales, while Octavia sales were flat in the month.

Also gaining traction was the Rapid (+79.5%), Superb (+20.0%) and Yeti (+40.0%).
