Significant lift in alternative energy trucks delivered by Scania

Scania reports 40% jump in alternative fuels/hybrid models last year…

The days of diesel being the king of the truck/bus world probably aren’t numbered, but there’s certainly a couple of alternatives that are gaining momentum.

Scania has just reported that they experienced a 40% increase in deliveries of trucks/buses in 2016 that were powered by diesel fuel alternatives.

The Swedish truck giants tell us that until last year they had seen a steady increase in demand for hybrid powertrains and for vehicles that run on alternative fuels, such as Compressed Natural Gas (CNG), but last year things really picked up.

In total, close to 5,000 non-diesel powered Scania vehicles were sold in 2016.

Henrik Henriksson, President and CEO of Scania, believes this trend will only continue in coming years.

“The demand for vehicles that support the shift to sustainable transport is growing and so is the demand for services that support fleet owners in reducing fuel consumption, and consequently also both carbon emissions and cost.

“This proves that sustainability and profitability go hand-in-hand.”
