A recall of Mercedes-Benz CLA-Class, A-Class and B-Class passenger cars has been initiated after a possible starter motor issue was identified.
The recall is being overseen by the Australian Competition and Consumer Commission (ACCC) and will involve more than 10,600 Mercedes-Benz vehicles sold in Australia.

All of the affected vehicles were sold in Australia between the 31st of January 2015 and the 31st of January 2017.

The recall notice advises that if the starter were to become blocked due to prior damage and if multiple and/or extended start attempts were to be made in this condition, the starting current limiter could be electrically overloaded and overheat.
What are the hazards?
In the worst-case scenario, this could cause nearby components to ignite and cause a fire.
Mercedes-Benz is asking affected owners to contact their local Mercedes-Benz dealer for an inspection and repair of the vehicle.
