Mercedes-AMG model to be used for highway patrol duties…
The latest high-output European car to be utilized by an Australian police force is a Mercedes-AMG GLE 43 which has just been delivered to the Victoria Police Highway Patrol.
The 295kW twin-turbo V6 Mercedes-Benz E-Class replaces a Mercedes-AMG GLE 63 Coupe that was on loan to Victoria Police for the past 12 months.
Once again, this new Mercedes-AMG car will be on loan for a period of a year with the ultimate goal of spreading the road safety message, according to Road Policing Command Assistant Commissioner, Doug Fryer.
“It is important to us to highlight what real safety looks like,”
“We want to be part of the discussion around what safer cars look like and know that having the Guardian V2 out and about in the community does this.”
Victoria Police are also trying to spread the message of how older cars are less safe than newer ones and this is an issue that seems to be most prevalent in regional areas.
“Three out of four deaths on country roads happen in cars that are older than 10 years.” Assistant Commissioner Fryer says.
